Psychoeducational

Our psychoeducational evaluations provide an assessment of how your child learns and what psychological or learning factors may be hindering learning. We strive to provide a proper assessment and description of your child’s abilities and needs. We utilize a variety of tools to provide a comprehensive and holistic picture of your child’s cognitive abilities and academic skills. By understanding how your child learns and approaches problem solving, we can identify the best plan for each child. This type of evaluation is useful for identifying your child’s strengths and weaknesses so they can receive the appropriate accommodations, and therefore, be better equipped for life and educational success.

Adult Assessments

The main purpose of psychological testing is to help adults gain a better understanding of his/her behavior, identify personal difficulties with cognition, and better understand personal strengths and weaknesses. This evaluation includes an assessment of cognitive, academic, emotional and behavioral functioning. We tailor each evaluation to the specific need of the individual. Our psychologists are expertly trained to administer and interpret tests that will assist each individual with diagnosis and treatment planning.

Developmental

Our specialists provide developmental evaluations for young children to assess various aspects of a child’s functioning (cognition, behavior, social, communication, motor and sensory abilities, as well as adaptive skills). For children suspected to have symptoms of autism, we provide thorough evaluations using gold standard assessment measures. Each developmental and autism assessment provides an individualized treatment plan for your child. Early diagnosis is the key to getting children the support they need.

Fees for Testing & Assessment

Our psychologists have many years of training and experience in conducting evidence-based assessments, including using gold-standard measure for the assessment of autism spectrum disorder. We also have specialized training in doing complex diagnostic assessments for children and adults whose needs have not been fully met by their current therapeutic services. Each assessment is customized to meet the unique background of the client and to answer the questions you are hoping to answer. Clinicians at IMPACT utilize therapeutic assessment to work with collaboratively with clients to help them understand themselves better and find solutions to challenges they face. The core values of therapeutic assessment are collaboration, respect, humility, compassion, openness, and curiosity.

How long does the testing process take?

We sometimes have a waiting list for testing. If that is the case, you will be informed up-front about any potential wait time. Once the assessment process begins, the actual testing in our office can take anywhere from 2 - 8 hours (often split over multiple days), depending on the complexity of the questions we are working with you to answer. Once the testing concludes, our psychologists will need several weeks - one month to score and interpret the tests and write the report. In some cases, you may need to return to the office for additional assessments if new questions emerge from the initial data. Once the report is written, you will schedule a meeting with the psychologist to discuss the findings and recommendations. After this, the report will be finalized and sent to you.

What is included in the fee?

The assessment process begins with a conversation with the psychologist to learn more about the client’s background and current difficulties. For child/adolescent assessments, the psychologist typically meets with parents, the child, teachers, therapists, psychiatrists, speech and occupational therapists and anyone else involved in the child’s care. For adult assessments, the psychologist may sometimes ask for consent to speak with important people in the client’s life (e.g. spouse, parents). In addition to a comprehensive interview, psychological testing includes the administration, scoring, and interpretation of tests. After scoring the tests, the psychologist then prepares a written report, meets with you (and your child, if relevant) to provide verbal feedback and to make recommendations for next steps. You will have the opportunity to review the report and ask questions.

What is the cost for an assessment?

Fees will vary based on the type of evaluation (partial or full), and depend on the needs of the case and patient. Most evaluation fees typically ranges from $4,000-$6,000.

Our FirstStep autism screening evaluations for preschoolers range from $1,500-$2,000. IQ testing to get into a gifted program and kindergarten readiness testing tend to be smaller assessments, and their prices vary depending on what is needed, but range from $3,000-$4,500.

If you need one of our psychologists to meet with school personnel or to attend an IEP or CPSE/CSE meeting, this is available and will be billed separately. Costs for these meetings are based on the length of meeting and typically range from $250-$500 total.

We would be happy to answer your questions or help you better understand the potential costs. If you have questions about cost or financial options, please discuss this with the psychologist you are working with. In some cases, we offer reduced fee assessments. These can be requested through our website after speaking with your psychologist.
